Magic the Gathering is a collectible card game created by mathematics professor Richard Garfield and introduced by Wizards of the Coast in 1993. It is a game where “planeswalkers,” similarly to wizards, summon spells and creatures to diminish their opponents life total.
A benefit that is often attributed to this card game is the sharpening of mental skills. This sharpening of mental skills is most often seen in increased understanding of mathematical concepts, as well as being able to do simple computations quickly, and correctly. Also those that prove themselves good enough at the game are able to compete for scholarships.
Additionally, there are many who simply collect the cards as items and keep them for the monetary value. The card shown above, Black Lotus is the most valuable Magic card to ever be released in a regular set. It is valued between $1200-$3000 depending on it’s condition.
